A checklist to set up import-export operations with a valid Importer Exporter Code (IEC).

IMPORT-EXPORT (IEC) SETUP CHECKLIST

Importer Exporter Code and trade setup formalities

Prerequisites

  • ☐ PAN of the business / proprietor
  • ☐ Current bank account in the business name
  • ☐ Valid registered business address proof
  • ☐ Active DSC / mobile and email for OTP

Documents

  • ☐ Identity and address proof of applicant
  • ☐ Cancelled cheque of the current account
  • ☐ Bank certificate, if requested
  • ☐ Constitution proof (partnership deed / incorporation)

IEC Application

  • ☐ Register on the DGFT portal
  • ☐ File the IEC application (ANF-2A)
  • ☐ Pay the government fee
  • ☐ Download the IEC certificate

Enabling Trade

  • ☐ Ensure valid GST registration
  • ☐ Set up AD Code registration with bank at port
  • ☐ Obtain RCMC from relevant Export Promotion Council
  • ☐ Classify products under correct HS / ITC codes
  • ☐ Appoint a Customs House Agent, if needed

Post-Registration

  • ☐ Update IEC on the DGFT portal annually
  • ☐ Maintain shipping bills and BRC / e-BRC records
  • ☐ Track applicable export incentives / RoDTEP

Note: IEC must be updated on DGFT every year even if there is no change, failing which it may be deactivated.
