DPIIT Startup Recognition Checklist

Check eligibility and assemble documents to obtain DPIIT recognition under the Startup India scheme.

DPIIT STARTUP RECOGNITION CHECKLIST

Applying for recognition by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade on the Startup India portal.

Eligibility

  • ☐ Entity is a Private Limited Company, LLP or Registered Partnership
  • ☐ Incorporated within the last 10 years
  • ☐ Annual turnover has not exceeded Rs.100 crore in any year
  • ☐ Not formed by splitting up or reconstruction of an existing business
  • ☐ Working towards innovation, improvement or a scalable model

Documents to Upload

  • ☐ Certificate of Incorporation / Registration
  • ☐ PAN of the entity
  • ☐ Details of directors/partners with contact information
  • ☐ Brief write-up on the innovative nature of the business
  • ☐ Supporting proof: website, pitch deck, patent, awards or product screenshots

Application

  • ☐ Register the entity profile on the Startup India portal
  • ☐ Complete the recognition application form
  • ☐ Describe the problem solved and revenue model
  • ☐ Submit and note the recognition/application number

Post-Recognition (Optional)

  • ☐ Apply for Section 80-IAC tax holiday, if eligible
  • ☐ Apply for angel tax exemption under Section 56(2)(viib)
  • ☐ Access self-certification for labour and environmental laws

Note: The 80-IAC tax holiday and angel-tax exemption require separate applications after recognition and have their own eligibility conditions. Keep the innovation write-up specific and evidence-backed.
