Quick Answer

To download your Udyam certificate, go to udyamregistration.gov.in, open "Print / Verify", choose "Print Udyam Certificate", enter your Udyam Registration Number (URN), verify with the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile or email, and then use your browser's Print → Save as PDF to save it. The download is free and available any time — there is no dedicated download button on the portal.

Only use the official government portal

The certificate is free only at udyamregistration.gov.in. Several look-alike private sites charge a "download / print fee" for this free service or ask for card details — avoid them. The Udyam certificate is a permanent electronic record and can also be stored in DigiLocker.

Lost it?

Lost Certificate or Forgot Your URN

The certificate is never "lost" — it stays on the portal permanently and can be re-downloaded any number of times at no cost. The only thing you must have is your Udyam Registration Number and access to the OTP.

  • Lost the PDF? Just repeat the Print / Verify steps above — there is no limit on how often you can re-download.
  • Forgot your URN? Use the "Forgot Udyam / Print without URN" option on the portal, or recover it using your Aadhaar / mobile — see how to recover a forgotten Udyam number.
  • Need to confirm a certificate is genuine? Use the Udyam verification tool on the same Print / Verify menu.

Can't access your URN or OTP mobile? Our team can help recover and re-download it.

MSME Classification on Your Certificate

Your Udyam certificate shows whether the enterprise is Micro, Small or Medium. Budget 2025 raised these limits sharply — investment thresholds by 2.5x and turnover by 2x — effective 1 April 2025 (Notification S.O. 1364(E)). Both manufacturing and service enterprises use the same limits, and the higher of the two tests decides the category.

CategoryInvestment in plant & machinery / equipmentAnnual turnover
Micro≤ Rs 2.5 crore≤ Rs 10 crore
Small≤ Rs 25 crore≤ Rs 100 crore
Medium≤ Rs 125 crore≤ Rs 500 crore

Limits effective 1 Apr 2025 per S.O. 1364(E). Exports are excluded from the turnover calculation. Classification is auto-computed from your PAN-linked ITR and GST data.

Registration is free — and self-declared

Udyam registration itself is free of cost and fully online at udyamregistration.gov.in, based on self-declaration and your PAN + Aadhaar. No documents or proof of investment/turnover need be uploaded, and no third party should charge a "government fee" for it.

Why it matters

What a Udyam Certificate Gets You

Beyond identity, the Udyam certificate unlocks the MSME benefit ecosystem. The most valuable for cash flow is the 45-day payment rule backed by Section 43B(h) of the Income-tax Act.

  • Collateral-free credit under the CGTMSE scheme and priority-sector lending from banks.
  • The 45-day payment rule + Section 43B(h): buyers must pay a registered micro/small supplier within 45 days (or the agreed period, max 45 days) — otherwise the buyer's expense is disallowed until actually paid, raising their taxable income.
  • Interest on delayed payments under the MSMED Act (compound interest at 3x the RBI bank rate) via the MSME Samadhaan portal.
  • Subsidies & concessions: lower interest, ISO/patent reimbursement, market-access and government-tender (GeM) preferences.
Section 43B(h) makes your Udyam status matter to your buyers

Because payments to a registered micro or small supplier beyond 45 days are disallowed as a deduction to the buyer until paid, large buyers increasingly ask suppliers for their Udyam certificate. Being registered — and keeping the certificate ready to share — can protect and speed up your receivables.

Udyam Certificate — Frequently Asked Questions

Short, direct answers to the 15 questions readers ask most on this topic.

Visit udyamregistration.gov.in, click "Print / Verify" in the top menu, select "Print Udyam Certificate", enter your Udyam Registration Number (URN), verify with the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile or email, and when the certificate loads press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on Mac) and choose "Save as PDF" to save the file to your device.

No. Downloading or printing the Udyam certificate is completely free on the official government portal at udyamregistration.gov.in, and there is no government fee at any step. Avoid look-alike private websites that charge for this free service or ask for card details.

The portal displays the certificate on screen rather than offering a dedicated download button. To save it, use your browser's built-in Print function: press Ctrl+P (or Cmd+P on Mac), set the destination to "Save as PDF" and save. This method works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on any device.

No. OTP verification on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number (or email) is mandatory before the certificate is displayed. This is a security step to prevent unauthorised access to your registration details. If you no longer have access to that mobile number, you must first update it on the portal.

There is no limit. You can re-download the Udyam certificate as many times as you like, free of cost, as long as the registration is active. Each download requires OTP verification, but there is no cap on how often you can access and save it.

Yes. The Udyam Registration Certificate is a permanent electronic record and can be stored in DigiLocker, where electronic records carry the same legal validity as originals under the IT Act. You can pull it into DigiLocker and share it digitally with banks, buyers and departments.

You cannot truly lose it — the certificate stays on the portal permanently. Just repeat the Print / Verify steps at udyamregistration.gov.in with your URN and OTP to re-download it. There is no time limit and no fee to re-download.

Use the "Forgot Udyam / Print without URN" option on the portal to recover your number using your Aadhaar or the mobile number used at registration, verified by OTP. Once you have the URN, you can print and save the certificate as normal.

Use the "Verify" option in the same Print / Verify menu at udyamregistration.gov.in and enter the Udyam Registration Number to confirm the enterprise's details. This is how banks, buyers and tender authorities check that a certificate is authentic.

Effective 1 April 2025 (Budget 2025, Notification S.O. 1364(E)), the limits are: Micro — investment up to Rs 2.5 crore and turnover up to Rs 10 crore; Small — up to Rs 25 crore investment and Rs 100 crore turnover; Medium — up to Rs 125 crore investment and Rs 500 crore turnover. The same limits apply to manufacturing and service enterprises, and exports are excluded from turnover.

Classification is auto-computed from your PAN-linked ITR and GST data, and the portal re-classifies enterprises based on the previous year's figures. If your investment or turnover crosses a threshold, your category is updated accordingly, so it is worth re-downloading the certificate to reflect the current status.

Yes. New Udyam registration is free and fully online at udyamregistration.gov.in, based on self-declaration with your PAN and Aadhaar. No documents need be uploaded and no government fee is charged. Any site charging a "registration fee" for Udyam is a private intermediary, not the government.

Registered MSMEs get collateral-free credit under CGTMSE, priority-sector lending, the protection of the 45-day payment rule (with a Section 43B(h) disallowance for buyers who pay late), interest on delayed payments via MSME Samadhaan, and various subsidies plus preference in government (GeM) tenders.

A buyer must pay a registered micro or small supplier within the agreed period, capped at 45 days. If the buyer pays late, Section 43B(h) of the Income-tax Act disallows that expense as a deduction until it is actually paid — increasing the buyer's taxable income. This is why many buyers now ask suppliers for their Udyam certificate.

Yes. Banks accept the Udyam certificate as proof of MSME status for collateral-free loans under CGTMSE, priority-sector lending and various subsidy schemes. Keep a saved PDF (or a DigiLocker copy) ready to share when you apply.
