Keep your books & GST compliant
A CA sets up clean invoicing, receipts and record-keeping so you stay audit-ready.
Disclaimer: A payment receipt acknowledges money received; it is not a tax invoice. Generated receipts are for your records — retain them with your accounts and, where required, affix a revenue stamp and add GST details.
How it works
A payment (money) receipt is the acknowledgement you hand over when you accept a payment — cash, UPI, cheque or bank transfer. Generate one in four steps; nothing leaves your browser.
Enter details
Add who received the money, the payer's name, receipt number, date, amount, mode and what the payment is towards.
Watch it build
The receipt renders live on the right — with the amount automatically spelled out in words to prevent tampering.
Print / Save PDF
Hit Print / Save PDF. Only the receipt prints — ready for a signature and, for large cash payments, a revenue stamp.
Hand it over
Sign and give it to the payer, keep a copy in your books, and note any balance still due for a clear payment trail.
Key terms explained
Receipt vs invoice
An invoice is a demand for payment raised before or when goods/services are supplied; a receipt is proof that money was actually received. You raise an invoice, then issue a receipt when it is paid — they are two different documents.
Revenue stamp on cash
Under the Indian Stamp Act, a ₹1 revenue stamp should be affixed and signed across on receipts for cash payments above ₹5,000. Payments by cheque, UPI or bank transfer generally do not need a revenue stamp.
GST note
A money receipt is not a tax invoice and does not by itself let the payer claim input tax credit. If GST applies to the supply, issue a proper GST tax invoice (or an advance receipt voucher) with your GSTIN, HSN/SAC and tax split.
Record-keeping
Keep receipts serially numbered and filed with your bank statements. Businesses generally retain accounting records for at least 6–8 years; a clean, numbered receipt trail is your first defence in any audit or dispute.
Questions people ask
Short answers on Payment Receipt Generator. Tap a question to open it.
01What should a payment receipt contain?
The receipt number and date, the name of the payer, the amount in figures and in words, the mode of payment with cheque or transaction reference, what the payment is for, and the signature of the person receiving it with the business stamp.
02Is a receipt the same as an invoice?
No. An invoice is a demand for payment raised when the supply is made. A receipt acknowledges that the money has been received. Both are needed — an invoice for the accounting entry and GST, and a receipt as proof of settlement.
03Is there a limit on cash receipts?
Yes. Section 269ST prohibits receiving ₹2,00,000 or more in cash from a person in a day, in respect of a single transaction, or in respect of transactions relating to one event. The penalty under section 271DA equals the amount received.
04Does a receipt need a revenue stamp?
Under the Indian Stamp Act, a receipt for more than ₹5,000 in cash requires a one-rupee revenue stamp. Receipts for electronic transfers are commonly issued without one, and practice varies by state.
05Should GST be shown on a receipt?
If the receipt is against an advance for services, a receipt voucher under GST is required and it must show the rate and amount of tax. A receipt merely acknowledging payment of an already-issued tax invoice need only reference that invoice.
