How the GST invoice generator works

Enter your business (seller) and customer (buyer) details with their GSTINs, add the invoice number, date and place of supply, then fill in up to three line items. The invoice on the right rebuilds itself instantly — taxable value, CGST+SGST or IGST, the grand total and the amount in words all update as you type. When it looks right, print it or save a PDF.

STEP 1

Seller & buyer

Add both parties' name, address and GSTIN. Leave buyer GSTIN blank for an unregistered (B2C) customer.

STEP 2

Invoice header

Enter the invoice number, date and place of supply, then pick intra-state or inter-state.

STEP 3

Line items

For each item type the description, HSN/SAC, quantity, rate and GST rate. Tax computes live.

STEP 4

Print or save

Hit “Print / Save PDF” — only the invoice prints, ready to send or file.

GST invoice terms explained

Mandatory invoice fields

A valid tax invoice must carry the supplier's name, address & GSTIN, a consecutive invoice number and date, the recipient's details, HSN/SAC code, description, quantity, taxable value, GST rate and amount, place of supply, and a signature. Missing fields can block the buyer's input tax credit.

HSN / SAC requirement

HSN codes classify goods and SAC codes classify services. Businesses with turnover up to ₹5 crore quote a 4-digit code on B2B invoices; above ₹5 crore a 6-digit code is required. Correct codes ensure the right GST rate applies.

CGST + SGST vs IGST

When supplier and place of supply are in the same state (intra-state), GST splits equally into CGST and SGST. When they are in different states (inter-state), a single IGST at the full rate applies instead. The total tax is the same either way.

E-invoice threshold

Businesses with aggregate turnover above ₹5 crore must generate an e-invoice with an IRN and QR code from the government portal for B2B supplies. Below that, a normal tax invoice like this one is sufficient. Learn more with our tax calculators.

Questions people ask

Short answers on GST Tax Invoice Generator. Tap a question to open it.

01What must a GST tax invoice contain?

Supplier name, address and GSTIN; a consecutive serial number; date; recipient details with GSTIN where registered; HSN or SAC; description, quantity and value; taxable value after discount; rate and amount of CGST, SGST, IGST and cess; place of supply for inter-state supplies; and whether tax is payable on reverse charge, with a signature or digital signature.

02When must the invoice be issued?

For goods, before or at the time of removal or delivery. For services, within 30 days of supply — 45 days for banks and financial institutions. A continuous supply follows the due date in the contract.

03Is HSN mandatory on every invoice?

HSN reporting depends on turnover — 4 digits for taxpayers with aggregate turnover up to ₹5 crore on B2B supplies, and 6 digits above that. Exports and supplies attracting e-invoicing require 6 or 8 digits.

04What is the difference between a tax invoice and a bill of supply?

A tax invoice is issued for taxable supplies and shows GST separately. A bill of supply is issued for exempt supplies and by composition dealers, and shows no tax, since none can be collected.

05Do I have to generate an e-invoice as well?

If your aggregate turnover in any year from 2017-18 onwards exceeded ₹5 crore, B2B invoices, exports and SEZ supplies must be registered on the IRP to obtain an IRN and signed QR code. Below that threshold the invoice you generate here is sufficient.
