GST registration — the government fee is ₹0
There is no government charge for a normal GST registration — the entire application on the GST portal is free. What you pay is a professional fee to have it done accurately: preparing documents, filing the application, handling the ARN and any clarification from the officer, and getting your GSTIN issued. A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is the only unavoidable statutory add-on, and only for entities that must file with DSC.
What makes up the cost
Your total is simply the government fee (always zero) plus our professional fee for your entity type, plus any DSCs and an optional Priority add-on. Nothing hidden.

Worked examples
Total cost = government fee (₹0) + professional fee for the entity type + DSC × count + Priority add-on. Here is how three common cases work out.
Key terms explained
Government fee
The GST portal charges nothing to register. Any "GST fee" you are quoted elsewhere is a professional / service charge, not a tax paid to the government.
Class-3 DSC
A Digital Signature Certificate used to sign the GST application electronically. It costs about ₹1,500 each. Private companies and LLPs must sign with DSC; a proprietor can usually verify with Aadhaar OTP instead.
ARN
The Application Reference Number generated after you submit the GST application. We track it and respond to any query the officer raises until the GSTIN is issued — included in the fee.
Priority plan
An optional +₹1,000 fast-track that puts your application at the front of the queue with quicker document review and clarification turnaround. Standard is fine for most businesses.
Is there a government fee for GST registration?
No. The GST portal charges nothing for a fresh registration. What you pay is for professional assistance, a Class 3 digital signature where the applicant is a company or LLP, and documentation such as a notarised NOC or rent agreement.
Why do I need a DSC for GST registration?
Companies and LLPs must sign the application with a Class 3 DSC of an authorised signatory. Proprietors and partnerships can use EVC through the Aadhaar-linked mobile number instead, which avoids the DSC cost.
How long does GST registration take?
Usually 7 to 15 working days where Aadhaar authentication succeeds. Cases flagged for physical verification of premises, or where a query in REG-03 is raised, take longer.
Do I need a separate registration for each state?
Yes. GST registration is state-wise, so a business with a place of business in three states takes three registrations against the same PAN, and each files its own returns.
What ongoing cost follows registration?
Monthly or quarterly return filing, the annual return where turnover exceeds the threshold, and the accounting work behind them. Registration itself is free, but compliance is the recurring cost worth budgeting for.
