Quick Answer

Online CA services are chartered-accountant services delivered entirely over the internet — no office visit. A qualified CA (ICAI member holding a valid Certificate of Practice) files your income-tax return, handles GST registration and returns, incorporates your company / LLP, manages TDS, and signs your tax audit u/s 44AB. Documents move via WhatsApp, email or a secure portal; the CA does all government-portal filings on your behalf. TaxClue delivers this through ICAI-registered CAs serving 5,000+ clients across India.

A CA's signature (UDIN) is mandatory for tax audit, statutory audit and GSTR-9C reconciliation; routine ITR/GST filing can be assisted by a CA but does not legally require a CA signature.

Service tax no longer exists — it is GST now

If you are looking for a CA to handle service tax: service tax was abolished and subsumed into GST from 1 July 2017. There is no service-tax registration or return to file for current periods — the equivalent today is GST registration and monthly/quarterly GST returns. Only legacy assessments or disputes for pre-July-2017 periods still touch service tax.

Are online CAs real?

Yes — Online CAs Are Fully Legitimate

Every chartered accountant in India is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the statutory body under The Chartered Accountants Act, 1949. ICAI membership plus a Certificate of Practice (CoP) lets a CA practise from anywhere — including delivering services online. You can verify any CA's membership on the ICAI member directory at icai.org.

  • CA holds valid ICAI membership number
  • Certificate of Practice (CoP) is active
  • Attestations carry a UDIN (verifiable on udin.icai.org)
  • GST-compliant tax invoice is issued
  • Scope, pricing and timeline agreed in writing
  • Documents shared over a secure channel
Beware fake-fee registration sites

Some services (notably Udyam/MSME registration and PAN-Aadhaar linking on the official portal) are free or nominal. Fraudulent sites charge a "fee" for the government step itself. A genuine CA charges a professional fee for the work and shows any government fee separately at actuals — never a hidden markup on a free service.

How to Hire a CA Online in India

Define the needITR, GST, company, TDS or audit
Check ICAI + CoPVerify membership on icai.org
Agree scope & priceWritten quote, timeline, govt fees at actuals
Share documentsWhatsApp, email or secure portal
Review & fileApprove, then CA files on the portal

For most compliance — ITR, GST returns, TDS — you never need to visit an office. For a company incorporation you will need a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) for directors, which is arranged online with video KYC.

Online CA is ideal if

  • You want pan-India access and fixed pricing
  • Your work is routine — ITR, GST, TDS, registrations
  • You prefer WhatsApp/portal over office visits
  • You need fast turnaround and status updates

Prefer in-person if

  • You have a complex litigation or scrutiny matter
  • You need frequent face-to-face strategy sessions
  • Large physical document sets are easier handed over locally
Online vs local

Online CA vs a Traditional Local CA

Online

Online CA (TaxClue)

  • 100% remote — no commute or waiting room
  • Pan-India, same ICAI-qualified expertise
  • Fixed, transparent pricing quoted upfront
  • Dedicated RM on WhatsApp + status updates
  • Digital document sharing and e-verification
vs
Local

Traditional local CA

  • Physical visits and appointments needed
  • Availability limited to office hours / city
  • Pricing often quoted case by case
  • Face-to-face for complex advisory
  • Paper document handover

For routine compliance — ITR filing, GST and TDS — an online CA is usually faster and more cost-effective. For heavy litigation or hands-on advisory, an in-person relationship can still help; many clients use a hybrid of both.

Reconcile AIS / 26AS before you file

Before any ITR, a good CA reconciles your AIS (Annual Information Statement) and Form 26AS against your own records — SFT entries, TDS/TCS, interest, dividend and securities transactions. A mismatch left uncorrected is the single most common trigger for a tax notice.

Online CA Services — Frequently Asked Questions

Basics
What are online CA services?
Online CA services are professional chartered-accountant services delivered entirely over the internet, with no office visit required. They include income-tax return filing, GST registration and returns, company and LLP registration, MSME/Udyam registration, TDS compliance, tax audit, bookkeeping and payroll. Documents are shared via WhatsApp, email or a secure portal, and the CA handles all government-portal filings on your behalf. TaxClue provides online CA services through ICAI-registered chartered accountants serving 5,000+ clients across India.
How much do online CA services cost?
Costs vary by service and complexity — ITR filing (salaried or business), GST registration and monthly returns, company registration, TDS returns, tax audit, bookkeeping and payroll each have their own pricing. A reputable firm quotes a fixed professional fee upfront and shows any government fee separately at actuals, with a GST-compliant invoice. Contact TaxClue for a personalised quote; there are no hidden charges.
Which services does an online CA cover?
The common ones are: income-tax return filing (ITR-1 to ITR-7), GST registration and GSTR-1/3B/9/9C, private limited / OPC / LLP incorporation and annual MCA filings, MSME/Udyam registration, PAN/TAN/IEC applications, TDS and TCS returns, tax audit u/s 44AB, statutory audit for companies, and bookkeeping and payroll. All of these can be delivered online.
Legitimacy
Are online CAs legitimate?
Yes. Every chartered accountant in India is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the statutory body under The Chartered Accountants Act, 1949. ICAI membership plus a valid Certificate of Practice (CoP) allows a CA to practise from anywhere, including online. TaxClue's CAs hold valid ICAI membership and CoP, verifiable on the ICAI member directory at icai.org.
How do I verify an online CA is genuine?
Ask for the CA's ICAI membership number and check it on the member directory at icai.org. For attestations (audit reports, certificates, GSTR-9C), verify the UDIN — Unique Document Identification Number — at udin.icai.org. A genuine CA also issues a GST-compliant tax invoice and agrees scope, pricing and timeline in writing before starting.
Is it safe to share documents with an online CA?
Yes, if you use a secure channel and a verified professional. Share documents via an encrypted portal or the firm's official email/WhatsApp, confirm the CA's ICAI credentials first, and avoid sending sensitive data to unverified links. Reputable firms use secure document handling and issue proper invoices for every payment.
Hiring
How do I hire a CA online in India?
Identify the service you need (ITR, GST, company registration, TDS, audit). Confirm the CA firm is ICAI-registered with relevant experience. Agree the scope of work, pricing and timelines in writing. Share the required documents via a secure channel, then review the output before it is filed. TaxClue simplifies this — describe your requirement on call or WhatsApp and we assign a dedicated CA, usually within 24 hours.
Do I need to visit an office to use an online CA?
No. All routine compliance — ITR filing, GST returns, TDS, registrations — is completed remotely with digital document sharing and e-verification. Even company incorporation is done online; directors complete a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) with video KYC. In-person meetings are optional and usually only needed for complex litigation or scrutiny matters.
How is TaxClue's online CA different from a traditional local CA?
A traditional local CA needs physical visits, has city-limited availability and often case-by-case pricing. TaxClue's online CA services are 100% remote and pan-India, with fixed transparent pricing, a dedicated relationship manager on WhatsApp and real-time status updates — the same ICAI-qualified expertise without commuting. For routine ITR, GST and TDS work, online is typically faster and more cost-effective.
Scope & Law
Do I need a CA to file my income-tax return or GST return?
Legally, no — routine ITR and GST returns can be filed without a CA signature. A CA is genuinely required only where the law mandates attestation: tax audit u/s 44AB, statutory audit under the Companies Act, and GSTR-9C reconciliation. Many taxpayers still use a CA for ITR/GST to optimise deductions, reconcile AIS/26AS and avoid notices.
When is a tax audit required, and can a CA do it online?
A tax audit under Section 44AB applies when business turnover exceeds Rs 1 crore (raised to Rs 10 crore if cash receipts and payments are each 5% or less of the total), or professional receipts exceed Rs 50 lakh. The CA prepares Form 3CA/3CB and 3CD, signs with a UDIN and files it on incometax.gov.in — all fully online.
Can an online CA handle company or MSME registration?
Yes. Private limited, OPC and LLP incorporation is filed on MCA's SPICe+ form (mca.gov.in) with DIN, DSC and MoA/AoA — done online. MSME/Udyam registration is free on udyamregistration.gov.in; the CA guides classification (micro/small/medium) and the process, charging only a professional fee, never a fee for the free government step.
I need help with service tax — can a CA do that?
Service tax was abolished and subsumed into GST from 1 July 2017, so there is no current service-tax registration or return. For any period from July 2017 onward, the equivalent is GST registration and GST returns. A CA only touches service tax for legacy assessments, refunds or disputes relating to periods before 1 July 2017.
What is AIS/26AS reconciliation and why does the CA do it?
The Annual Information Statement (AIS) is a comprehensive record of your financial transactions — TDS/TCS, interest, dividend, securities and SFT reporting — while Form 26AS is your tax-credit statement. Before filing your ITR, the CA reconciles these against your own records so all income is reported and all credits are claimed. An unaddressed mismatch is the most common cause of a tax notice.
Does an online CA issue a proper invoice I can claim ITC on?
Yes. A registered CA firm issues a GST-compliant tax invoice for every payment. If you are a GST-registered business, the GST charged on professional CA fees is generally eligible as Input Tax Credit, subject to the normal ITC conditions. Government fees (MCA, stamp duty, etc.) are shown separately at actuals and are not part of the professional fee.
