Buying the bike for business use?
Depreciation, GST input credit and interest deduction can all apply — get it structured correctly by a CA.
Disclaimer: EMIs are computed on a monthly reducing-balance basis. Your lender's actual EMI may differ slightly due to the interest start date, broken-period interest, GST on charges and insurance financed into the loan. Confirm the final figure in your sanction letter.
How the bike loan EMI is worked out
A two-wheeler loan uses the same reducing-balance formula as any other EMI: EMI = P × r × (1+r)ⁿ ÷ ((1+r)ⁿ − 1), where P is the amount financed, r is the monthly rate (annual ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n is the number of months. Every instalment is identical, but the split inside it shifts — early EMIs are mostly interest, later ones mostly principal. That is why prepaying in the first year saves far more than prepaying in the last.

Key terms explained
Flat rate vs reducing rate
Dealers often quote a flat rate, where interest is charged on the full original amount for the whole tenure. A 7% flat rate is roughly a 13% reducing rate — always ask which one is being quoted.
On-road vs ex-showroom price
Lenders fund a percentage of the on-road price, which includes road tax, registration and insurance. Ex-showroom is typically 12–20% lower, so the two are not interchangeable.
Processing fee & GST
Usually 1–2% of the loan or a flat ₹1,000–₹3,000, plus 18% GST on the fee. It is deducted upfront, so you receive slightly less than the sanctioned amount.
Foreclosure charges
Closing early usually attracts 3–5% of the outstanding on fixed-rate two-wheeler loans. Check this before planning a prepayment — it can wipe out the interest saved.

Questions people ask
Short answers on Bike Loan EMI Calculator. Tap a question to open it.
01How is a two-wheeler loan EMI calculated?
On a monthly reducing balance: EMI = P × r × (1+r)ⁿ ÷ ((1+r)ⁿ − 1), where P is the amount financed, r is the annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100 and n is the tenure in months. Early EMIs are mostly interest, later ones mostly principal.
02What is the difference between a flat rate and a reducing rate?
A flat rate charges interest on the full original amount for the entire tenure, so a 7% flat rate works out to roughly 13% on a reducing basis. Dealers often quote flat rates because the number looks smaller — always ask which basis is being quoted.
03Is a bike loan eligible for any tax deduction?
Not for personal use. If the two-wheeler is used for business or profession, the interest is allowable as a business expense and depreciation can be claimed on the vehicle, subject to disallowance of any personal-use proportion.
04What happens if I prepay a two-wheeler loan?
Fixed-rate two-wheeler loans usually attract foreclosure charges of 3%–5% of the outstanding principal. Prepaying in the first year saves far more interest than prepaying near the end, so compare the interest saved against the foreclosure charge before deciding.
