A row is flagged Review whenever your books and the AIS / 26AS figure differ by even ₹1. A positive difference (AIS higher) usually means income the department sees that isn't yet in your return — reconcile or submit AIS feedback before filing.

Disclaimer: This is a self-help reconciliation aid, not tax advice. AIS / TIS figures on the income-tax portal are the authoritative source; always verify against the actual statement and submit AIS feedback for genuinely wrong entries.

Why you must reconcile 26AS & AIS before filing

The Annual Information Statement (AIS) and Form 26AS pull together everything third parties report about you — salary, interest, dividends, share and mutual-fund sales, rent and TDS. If your ITR under-reports any figure the department already has, the return is auto-flagged and you can receive a notice under Section 143(1) or 139(9). Matching your books to the AIS first is the single cheapest way to avoid that.

How the analyzer works

Four steps, all on the income-tax portal (incometax.gov.in) plus this tool:

1

Download 26AS & AIS

Log in to the e-filing portal → Services → Annual Information Statement, and e-File → Income Tax Returns → View Form 26AS. Download both PDFs.

2

Compare head by head

Enter your own books / bank figures and the AIS / 26AS figures above. The tool computes the difference and flags every mismatch as Review.

3

Submit AIS feedback

For entries in AIS that are wrong (duplicate, not yours, already taxed), use the "Optional / Feedback" button in the AIS to mark them — the corrected value flows to the TIS.

4

File & e-verify

Once every head is Matched (or explained by feedback), file the ITR with the reconciled figures and e-verify within 30 days to complete the process.

Key terms explained

Form 26AS

Your annual tax-credit statement — it shows TDS, TCS, advance tax and self-assessment tax paid against your PAN, plus certain high-value transactions. It is the record of tax already credited to you.

AIS (Annual Information Statement)

A wider statement than 26AS — it lists almost every reported financial transaction: salary, interest, dividend, securities and mutual-fund sales, rent, foreign remittances and more, with a feedback option on each entry.

TIS (Taxpayer Information Summary)

A simplified, category-wise summary derived from the AIS. It shows a processed value and a derived value — if you submit AIS feedback, the TIS auto-updates to the corrected derived value.

AIS feedback & e-verification

AIS feedback lets you mark an entry as correct, duplicate, not yours or already taxed. E-verification is the final step that validates your filed ITR (Aadhaar OTP, net-banking or DSC) — a return isn't complete until it's verified.

Questions people ask

Short answers on 26AS / AIS Mismatch Analyzer. Tap a question to open it.

01What is the difference between Form 26AS and AIS?

Form 26AS is the tax credit statement — the TDS, TCS and advance/self-assessment tax actually credited to your PAN. The Annual Information Statement (AIS) is much wider: it also reports interest, dividend, securities and mutual fund trades, property deals, foreign remittances and high-value spending reported by third parties.

02Why do my books not match AIS or 26AS?

The usual reasons are timing (the deductor booked the payment in a different quarter), gross-vs-net reporting, income reported in a joint holder's name, a deductor quoting the wrong PAN, or duplicate reporting of the same transaction by two agencies.

03What happens if I file my ITR ignoring an AIS mismatch?

The return is processed under section 143(1) against the department's own data, so an unreported figure usually triggers an adjustment, a demand, or a "significant transaction" e-campaign notice. Reconciling before you file is far cheaper than replying afterwards.

04Can I correct a wrong entry in my AIS?

Yes. In the AIS module on the e-filing portal you can submit feedback on any line — "information is duplicate", "relates to another PAN", "income is not taxable" and so on. The feedback is passed back to the reporting entity and the modified value shows in your AIS.

05Should I go by 26AS or by my own records when filing?

File on your actual income, but claim TDS credit only to the extent it appears in 26AS. If real TDS is missing from 26AS, chase the deductor to correct their TDS return — the credit cannot be granted from a certificate alone.
