The new regime slabs are age-agnostic; age categories affect only the old-regime basic exemption.
Under the new regime for FY 2025-26, the 87A rebate makes taxable income up to Rs 12 lakh tax-free. Add the Rs 75,000 standard deduction and a salaried person earning up to Rs 12.75 lakh pays no tax. The rebate does not apply to special-rate income such as capital gains under 111A/112A.

Old Regime — FY 2025-26 (below 60 years)

Basic exemption is Rs 3,00,000 for seniors (60-80) and Rs 5,00,000 for super-seniors (80+). Old-regime 87A rebate covers taxable income up to Rs 5L.
