Quick Answer

To check your GST registration status, go to the GST portal gst.gov.in and open Services › Registration › Track Application Status. Choose the Registration module, enter your ARN (Application Reference Number) and the captcha, then click Search. The portal shows the real-time stage — Pending for Processing, Pending for Clarification, Approved or Rejected. No login is required to track by ARN.

Step by step

How to Check GST Registration Status by ARN

The tracker is on the public dashboard, so you can check without signing in. Keep the ARN emailed to you when you submitted Form GST REG-01.

  1. 1Open portalVisit gst.gov.in
  2. 2Track ApplicationServices › Registration
  3. 3Enter ARNPaste your 15-char ARN
  4. 4Enter captchaComplete the captcha
  5. 5View statusReal-time stage shown
Lost your ARN?

The ARN is a 15-character reference sent by SMS and email the moment you submit REG-01 and complete OTP verification. Search your inbox for the acknowledgement from the GST portal. If you already have a provisional TRN (Temporary Reference Number), you can log back in with it to resume or track an in-progress application.

What Each GST Status Label Means

The portal colours each stage — completed stages appear green and later stages are greyed out. These are the labels you may see on the Track Application Status screen and the action each one needs.

Pending for ClarificationOfficer raised a query / issued notice REG-03Act now Reply in REG-04 within 7 working days

Labels per the GST portal Track Application Status user guide (gst.gov.in). Exact wording can vary slightly by portal version.

A 7-day clock runs on clarifications

When status turns Pending for Clarification, a REG-03 notice has been issued and you must respond in Form REG-04 within 7 working days. Missing this window is the most common avoidable cause of rejection — the officer can then reject the application for non-response.

Two ways to check

Track an Application vs Verify an Existing GSTIN

The pre-login tracker checks an application you have submitted. If you instead want to verify a GSTIN that is already issued — yours or a supplier's — use Search Taxpayer › Search by GSTIN/UIN on the portal homepage.

What to Do If Your Application Is Rejected

A rejection comes as an order in Form REG-05 stating the reason. You have two routes — correct and re-apply, or appeal — and 30 days to appeal.

  • Read the REG-05 order to find the exact reason
  • Fix the flagged issue — blurry photo, address mismatch, wrong proof
  • Re-upload documents in the accepted format & size (PDF/JPEG)
  • File a fresh REG-01 with corrected details
  • Or appeal to the Appellate Authority within 30 days
  • Complete Aadhaar authentication to avoid a site visit
Common rejection triggers

Most rejections trace back to a blurred photograph, address proof that does not match the application, or incomplete Aadhaar authentication for the proprietor / partner / director. Fix these before you re-apply — a clean re-submission is faster than an appeal.

How long it takes

GST Registration Timeline

Speed depends almost entirely on whether Aadhaar authentication is completed. Authenticated applications clear fastest; those routed to biometric or physical verification take longest.

ScenarioIndicative timeNote
Aadhaar authenticated, no query~7 working daysFastest, straight-through route
Aadhaar not authenticated / risk-flaggedup to 30 daysBiometric + physical site verification
Clarification (REG-03) raised+7 to 14 days7 days to reply, then officer decides

Indicative only; actual times vary by jurisdiction and workload. GST 2.0 (22 Sep 2025) did not change the registration or tracking process.

GST Registration Status — Frequently Asked Questions

Short, direct answers to the 15 questions readers ask most on this topic.

Go to gst.gov.in, open Services > Registration > Track Application Status, select the Registration module, enter your ARN and the captcha, and click Search. The portal instantly shows the current stage of your application — Pending for Processing, Pending for Clarification, Approved or Rejected — with the relevant dates. No login is required to track by ARN.

ARN stands for Application Reference Number. It is a 15-character reference generated the moment you submit your GST registration application (Form REG-01) and complete OTP verification. It is sent to your registered email and mobile, and is the key you use to track the application until a GSTIN is issued.

Yes. The Track Application Status feature is available on the public (pre-login) dashboard. You only need your ARN — no username or password. If you have a Temporary Reference Number (TRN) for an in-progress application, you can also log in with the TRN to resume and track it.

You cannot track a pending application using PAN alone — you need the ARN for that. However, you can find an already-issued GSTIN linked to a PAN using the Search Taxpayer > Search by PAN feature on the portal, which lists the GSTINs registered against that PAN.

The ARN was sent by SMS and email when you submitted Form REG-01, so search your inbox and messages for the acknowledgement from the GST portal. If you were still mid-application, log back in with your TRN to view the ARN. If you cannot locate either, your tax consultant who filed the application will have it on record.

It means your application has been successfully filed and is waiting for the tax officer to review it. No action is needed from you at this stage. The officer normally has to process it within 7 working days if Aadhaar authentication is complete and no clarification is required.

The officer has issued a notice (Form REG-03) seeking clarification or additional documents. You must respond through the portal in Form REG-04 within 7 working days. Failing to reply in time is a common reason applications get rejected, so act promptly when you see this status.

When the status shows Approved, a 15-digit GSTIN is assigned and login credentials are emailed to you. You can download your registration certificate (Form REG-06) from the portal, and you must start issuing GST-compliant invoices and filing returns from the effective date of registration.

It means the officer has ordered a physical verification of your business premises, usually where Aadhaar authentication was not completed or the application was risk-flagged. Ensure someone is available at the registered address with the original proofs (rent agreement, utility bill, ownership documents) when the officer visits.

Open the rejection order (Form REG-05) and read the exact reason. You can either fix the flagged issue and file a fresh REG-01 application, or appeal to the Appellate Authority within 30 days of the order if you believe the rejection was wrong. Correcting and re-applying is usually faster than an appeal.

Yes. There is no limit on the number of times you can apply. Submit a fresh application with corrected documents and details that address the specific reason mentioned in the REG-05 rejection order. Make sure documents meet the portal's format and size requirements and complete Aadhaar authentication.

The frequent triggers are a blurry or non-compliant photograph, address proof that does not match the application, incomplete Aadhaar authentication for the proprietor/partner/director, mismatched PAN details, and failure to reply to a clarification notice (REG-03) within the 7-day window. Fixing these before re-applying avoids repeat rejections.

If Aadhaar authentication is completed and no clarification is needed, registration is usually granted within about 7 working days. If Aadhaar is not authenticated or the case is flagged, biometric and physical site verification can extend it to around 30 days. A clarification notice adds roughly 7 to 14 more days.

Aadhaar authentication is required for the proprietor, partners and directors to get the faster, straight-through processing. If it is not completed or fails, the officer can order biometric verification and a physical site visit, which delays the registration and pushes the timeline towards 30 days.

No. The GST 2.0 rate rationalisation effective 22 September 2025 restructured tax rates into a two-slab system but did not change the registration process or the way you track an ARN. The Track Application Status feature, the status labels and the forms (REG-01 to REG-06) all continue as before.
