FCRA registration
An NGO needs registration — or prior permission for a specific donor and purpose — under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act before it can receive any foreign contribution, which must first land in its FCRA account at SBI, New Delhi Main Branch.
- Issued by
- Ministry of Home Affairs
- Law
- Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act 2010 and the FCRA Rules 2011
- Where to apply
- fcraonline.nic.in
TaxClue does not handle this service. It is on the checklist because many of our clients need it. Raise a request and we will try to connect you with someone who can do it, where possible.
How FCRA registration works
The usual picture. Procedures, fees and forms differ by state and authority — always check the current rules before you apply.
Who needs it
- Trusts, societies and Section 8 companies receiving foreign donations
- Organisations with a definite cultural, economic, educational, religious or social programme
Documents usually asked for
- Registration certificate and governing document of the NGO
- Audited accounts and activity reports (registration usually needs three years of existence and minimum spending on core work)
- Details of key functionaries, with their Aadhaar
- For prior permission: a commitment letter from the foreign donor
The process
- Open the FCRA account at SBI, New Delhi Main Branch
- Apply to MHA online — registration, or prior permission if you are newer
- Verification by MHA and security agencies
- Certificate granted; file annual returns and renew every five years
What we can do today
The other registrations the same businesses need — these we handle end to end.
Registrations we handle
Often needed alongside FCRA registration.
