The portal describes registration as voluntary, and it is also the route for the Ministry’s classification of operational hotels and recognition of tourism service providers. Note: NIDHI+ has nothing to do with a “Nidhi Company” under the Companies Act.

NIDHI+ is an administrative initiative of the Ministry of Tourism, not a statutory licence under an Act. Classification of hotels and recognition of tourism service providers are voluntary schemes run by the Ministry under its own guidelines, now processed online through NIDHI+.
Operated by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Registrations are verified by the State / UT Nodal Officer; classification and recognition applications are processed by the Ministry under its guidelines.
NIDHI registration stays on record while your details are current. Classification certificates and recognitions carry the validity stated in the respective Ministry guidelines and must be renewed before expiry.

Not a Nidhi Company
NIDHI+ is a Ministry of Tourism hospitality database. It is unrelated to a Nidhi Company — a mutual-benefit company under the Companies Act, 2013.
State Nodal Officer verifies
Your application is verified or returned with remarks by the State / UT Nodal Officer; on verification, the NIDHI ID and login are sent to the verified email.
Classification is a separate step
Registration and classification are different. Classification of operational hotels is a voluntary Ministry scheme with its own criteria, inspection and fee.
Project approval discontinued
The NIDHI+ portal notes that project approval for under-construction hotels was discontinued with effect from 16 March 2026. Classification applies to operational units.
