Quick Answer

If you forgot your Udyam Registration Number (URN), recover it free on udyamregistration.gov.in. Open the Print / Verify menu, click "Forgot Udyam/UAM No.", choose Mobile or Email OTP, enter the number/email you registered with, validate the OTP and your URN is shown instantly. If OTP is not possible, use the Verify Udyam option with PAN, or contact the Udyam helpdesk. There is no fee.

Use the official portal only

Recover your URN only on the government site udyamregistration.gov.in. Many look-alike private sites charge a fee for a service that is free on the official portal. TaxClue never asks for portal OTPs — the OTP goes to the enterprise owner's own registered mobile/email.

The common blocker

What If My Mobile Number Has Changed?

The OTP goes to the mobile/email you used at registration (usually your Aadhaar-linked mobile). If that number is inactive, you have three routes:

  • Try Email OTP first — if you registered an email, use the Email option instead of Mobile; it often still works when the phone has changed.
  • Update your Aadhaar mobile — visit an Aadhaar enrolment centre, update the linked mobile, then use OTP recovery on the Udyam portal.
  • Contact the Udyam helpdesk / DIC — email the Champions/Udyam helpdesk or visit your District Industries Centre with enterprise name, PAN and ID proof for manual recovery.
PAN alone does not fetch the URN online

The online "Forgot Udyam/UAM No." flow needs an OTP to your registered mobile or email. PAN can only verify an existing registration (via Verify Udyam) or support a manual helpdesk request — it will not display a forgotten URN on its own.

  • Note the PAN and enterprise name exactly as registered

Forgot Udyam Number — Frequently Asked Questions

Recovery Basics
How do I recover a forgotten Udyam Registration Number?
Go to udyamregistration.gov.in, open the Print / Verify menu and click "Forgot Udyam/UAM No.". Choose Mobile or Email OTP, enter the mobile number or email you registered with, click Validate & Generate OTP, enter the OTP and your Udyam Registration Number (URN) is displayed on screen. The process is free and usually takes under five minutes.
Is there a fee to recover a forgotten URN?
No. Recovering your Udyam Registration Number on the official portal udyamregistration.gov.in is completely free. There is no charge for the OTP or for viewing your registration details. Be cautious of look-alike private websites that charge a fee for this free government service.
How long does URN recovery take?
Online recovery via registered mobile or email OTP is instant — usually under five minutes. If you cannot use OTP and go through the Udyam helpdesk by email or phone, it typically takes 1-3 working days, and an in-person visit to a District Industries Centre (DIC) can take 1-5 working days.
What does a Udyam Registration Number look like?
A URN follows the format UDYAM-XX-00-0000000, where XX is the state code. It is the unique identifier issued after successful Udyam (MSME) registration and appears on your Udyam Registration Certificate.
Mobile & OTP
What if the mobile number linked to my Udyam has changed?
First try the Email OTP option if you registered an email. Otherwise, update the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar at an Aadhaar enrolment centre and then use OTP recovery, or contact the Udyam helpdesk / your District Industries Centre with your enterprise name, PAN and identity proof for manual recovery.
Which OTP methods are available for recovery?
The "Forgot Udyam/UAM No." flow lets you receive the OTP on either your registered mobile number or your registered email ID. Pick whichever you still have access to. If neither is active, you will need to update your Aadhaar mobile or use the helpdesk route.
Can my CA or consultant recover the URN for me?
A consultant can guide you through the steps, but the OTP is sent to the enterprise owner's registered mobile or email. You must share that OTP with them for verification. TaxClue can assist end-to-end, including the helpdesk route when OTP access is lost.
PAN & Alternatives
Can I recover my Udyam number using only my PAN?
Not through the online "Forgot Udyam/UAM No." OTP flow, which needs your registered mobile or email. PAN can be used with the Verify Udyam option to confirm an existing registration, or provided to the Udyam helpdesk for manual verification and recovery when OTP is unavailable.
What details should I give the Udyam helpdesk?
Provide your enterprise name exactly as registered, your PAN, the registered mobile/email (even if changed), and any supporting identity or business documents. This helps the helpdesk or District Industries Centre trace and recover or re-issue your URN.
Udyog Aadhaar & Multiple
I registered under Udyog Aadhaar — can I recover on the Udyam portal?
If your Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM) was migrated to Udyam, use the "Forgot Udyam/UAM No." option with your Aadhaar-linked mobile/email to retrieve the number. If migration did not happen, you may need to complete fresh Udyam registration on the portal.
I have multiple Udyam registrations — how do I find the right one?
After OTP verification the portal shows the registration(s) linked to your credentials. As a rule an enterprise should hold a single Udyam registration covering all activities; if you see more than one, note each URN and consult an expert on consolidating, since duplicate registrations should be avoided.
After recovering the URN, can I download the certificate again?
Yes. Once you have the URN, use the Print / Verify section of the Udyam portal to view and download a fresh copy of your Udyam Registration Certificate, and use Verify Udyam to confirm its validity.
If you would rather not do it yourself
