What Is FSSAI Duplicate License?
A quick, plain-language explanation before the details.
An FSSAI Duplicate License is a reissued copy of your existing FSSAI registration certificate or licence, obtained when the original is lost, damaged or destroyed. Your FSSAI number stays the same.
Under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and the FSS (Licensing & Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011, every food business operator must obtain and prominently display a valid FSSAI registration or licence at the premises. Where the original certificate is lost, mutilated or destroyed, a duplicate copy of the same registration / licence can be obtained.
Administered by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) through the Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) portal at foscos.fssai.gov.in, which replaced the older FLRS portal.
A duplicate does not change your validity — it carries the same FSSAI number, category and validity period as the original. FSSAI registrations and licences are perpetual since 1 April 2026, kept active by the annual fee and the annual Food Safety Compliance Report (FSCR); older certificates were issued for 1 to 5 years.

Talk to an Expert →Why You Need an FSSAI Duplicate License
The FSSAI certificate must be displayed at your premises at all times. If the original is missing or unreadable, a duplicate keeps you compliant. Here is why it matters.
-
01
Display Is Mandatory
Food business operators must prominently display a valid FSSAI certificate at the premises. If the original is lost or damaged, a legible duplicate restores compliance.
-
02
Inspection Readiness
Food-safety officers can ask to see the certificate during an inspection. A clear, valid copy on display avoids notices and adverse observations.
-
03
Same Number, No Disruption
A duplicate keeps your existing 14-digit FSSAI number, category and validity — there is no change to your licence, only a fresh copy.
-
04
Platform & Buyer Requests
Swiggy, Zomato, marketplaces and B2B buyers often ask for a readable copy of your certificate. A duplicate gives you a clean file to share.
-
05
Consumer Trust
A visible, legible FSSAI certificate reassures customers that your food business is registered and compliant.
-
06
Clean Record-Keeping
Replacing a torn, faded or missing certificate keeps your compliance file complete and ready for audits, tenders and renewals.

What You’ll Receive
What Documents Are Required for an FSSAI Duplicate License?
A duplicate needs only a light document set — chiefly your existing FSSAI details and the reason for reissue. Keep clear scans (PDF/JPG) ready; everything is collected securely over WhatsApp or email, with zero office visits.
Existing Licence Details
Your current FSSAI registration- 14-digit FSSAI number (or registered mobile / email to trace it)
- FoSCoS login credentials, if available
- Any earlier copy / screenshot of the certificate, if you have one
- Details of the food-business premises on the licence
Applicant & Reason
Who is applying & why- Identity proof (Aadhaar / PAN) of the applicant / signatory
- Reason for reissue — lost, damaged or destroyed
- Mobile number & email for FoSCoS OTP verification
- Passport-size photograph, if requested
Optional / If Applicable
Where relevant- Copy of the FIR / complaint if the certificate was lost or stolen
- Photograph of the damaged / mutilated certificate
- Authorisation letter for the person filing on your behalf
- Any declaration / self-attestation as required
Your FSSAI number does not change
A duplicate is a fresh copy of the same registration — your 14-digit FSSAI number, category and validity stay exactly as they were. It is not a new licence.
Explain the reason for reissue
You need to state why the original is unavailable — lost, damaged or destroyed. For a lost or stolen certificate, an FIR / complaint copy may help support the request.
FoSCoS is the only portal
The duplicate request is filed through FoSCoS (foscos.fssai.gov.in) against your existing registration. The old FLRS portal has been discontinued.
Keep the certificate displayed
The FSSAI certificate must be displayed at your premises at all times. Print and display the duplicate as soon as it is issued to stay inspection-ready.

How Long Does an FSSAI Duplicate License Take?
| Stage | Expected Time |
|---|---|
| Licence verification & document collection | 1–2 working days |
| FoSCoS duplicate request filing | Same / next working day |
| Duplicate certificate issued | Typically a few working days |
A duplicate is usually quicker than a fresh registration because your details already exist on FoSCoS and no physical inspection is involved. Queries from the food authority, or incomplete details, can extend the timeline until they are resolved.
