What Is Udyam Registration?
A quick, plain-language explanation before the details.
Udyam Registration is the government’s official MSME registration — it gives your business a permanent Udyam Registration Number (URN) and an e-certificate that identifies it as a Micro, Small or Medium Enterprise.
Udyam Registration is issued under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Act, 2006. Enterprises are classified as Micro, Small or Medium based on their investment in plant & machinery / equipment and their annual turnover.
Administered by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (Ministry of MSME), Government of India, through the official portal at udyamregistration.gov.in.
A Udyam Registration is permanent — there is no expiry and no renewal. Enterprise details are updated automatically from linked PAN and GST data, and can be edited online when needed.
