MSME Classification
Micro: Investment ≤ ₹1Cr & Turnover ≤ ₹5Cr. Small: Investment ≤ ₹10Cr & Turnover ≤ ₹50Cr. Medium: Investment ≤ ₹50Cr & Turnover ≤ ₹250Cr.
Udyam Registration Benefits
Priority sector lending, lower interest rates, credit guarantee schemes (CGTMSE), government tender preference, and protection against delayed payments (MSMED Act).
Startup India (DPIIT)
Eligible: Entity incorporated < 10 years, turnover < ₹100Cr, working on innovation/scalable model. Benefits: tax holiday, IPR fast-track, easier winding up.
Tax Benefits for Startups
Section 80-IAC: 3-year income tax holiday (out of first 10 years). Section 54GB: Capital gains exemption on investment in DPIIT-recognized startups.
Angel Tax Exemption
DPIIT startups can apply for exemption under Sec 56(2)(viib). Exempts amount received from angel/accredited investors from deemed income tax.
Credit Guarantee Scheme (CGTMSE)
Collateral-free loans up to ₹5 crore for MSMEs. Government provides 85% guarantee to lender. Apply through member lending institutions.
MSMED Act Protection
Buyers must pay MSMEs within 45 days. Delayed payment: compound interest at 3x bank rate. Recovery through MSME Samadhan portal.
GeM Portal Advantage
MSME/startup sellers get preference in Government e-Marketplace. Udyam certificate required for MSME benefits on GeM. ₹2.5 lakh crore+ orders annually.
