KYC: certified copy for FPIsReliefRBI has amended paragraph 5(1)(v) of the Commercial Banks – Know Your Customer Directions, 2025. The option of taking an original certified copy of KYC documents — certified by an overseas bank branch, a notary abroad, a court magistrate, a judge or the Indian Embassy/Consulate — was available for NRIs and PIOs. It now also covers Foreign Portfolio Investors, with immediate effect from 18 September 2026.

e-KYC: 30 Sept was finalExtendedBy a public notice dated 31 August 2026, the Office of the CGPDTM moved the last date for completing mandatory e-KYC from 31 August to 30 September 2026 and said no further extension would be granted. That date has now passed. An earlier notice had warned of inconvenience or disruption in availing the Office’s services.

Aadhaar check is voluntaryNew facilityBy notification S.O. 4831(E) dated 24 August 2026, the Ministry of Labour and Employment has notified Aadhaar authentication for verifying user details for modules on the Shram Suvidha Portal. It is voluntary, uses only Yes/No and/or e-KYC authentication, needs the Aadhaar holder’s consent, and no service can be denied for refusing it. The notification supersedes S.O. 2523(E) of 15 May 2026.

KRA access for IFSCA entitiesNew facilitySEBI has specified the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) under regulation 16A(1) of the KRA Regulations, 2011. Entities regulated by IFSCA may now access the systems of SEBI-registered KYC Registration Agencies to do KYC of their clients. They must follow the KRA Regulations, SEBI’s KYC Master Circular and, for FPI clients, the data security guidelines in the FPI Master Circular.

Digital KYC from abroad: draftComments invitedA SEBI consultation paper issued on 14 August 2026 proposes to let intermediaries on-board individual persons resident outside India digitally without insisting on physical presence in India, if the client is located in a FATF-compliant country. KYC records of such clients would be treated as portable, and video in-person verification would be subject to concurrent audit. Comments were due by 4 September 2026; the window has closed.

FIU reports only on FINgate 2.0Rule changeIFSCA has modified its AML, CFT and KYC Guidelines, 2022. Regulated entities must file all reports online only at FIU-India’s FINgate 2.0 portal; rule 8 of the PML rules is added to clause 10.3; Cross Border Wire Transfer Reports are written into the guidance note; and the list of countries from which an NRI customer’s IP address may emanate is substituted with nine jurisdictions.
