What the notice said

The Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM) issued Public Notice No. CG/F/CGPDTM/DL-08/4547 dated 31 August 2026, headed “Final Extension of Time for Completion of Mandatory e-KYC up to 30.09.2026”.

Referring to its earlier public notices of 9 July 2026 and 7 August 2026, the Office extended the last date for completing the mandatory e-KYC from 31 August 2026 to 30 September 2026. It added that this extension “shall be treated as the final extension and no further extension of the timeline shall be granted”.

As of 4 October 2026, that date has passed.

Why the earlier extension was given

The 7 August notice recorded that the Office had been receiving representations and queries from stakeholders on the mandatory e-KYC process. It extended the date “in view of the encouraging participation and the valuable feedback” at an Open House Session held on 4 August 2026, to allow wider participation and smooth completion. It also said a separate open house session on technical difficulties would be announced.

What happens if e-KYC is not done

The final-extension notice of 31 August does not itself spell out a consequence. The 7 August notice had advised all stakeholders who had not completed the mandatory e-KYC to do so by the last date “to avoid any inconvenience or disruption in availing the services of the Intellectual Property Office”.

Neither notice says more than that, and neither describes the e-KYC procedure — the 31 August notice refers back to the notice of 9 July 2026 for it.

Where to write

For technical issues or queries on the e-KYC process, both notices give the same three e-mail addresses:

  • support.ipo@gov.in
  • patentagent-ipo@gov.in
  • trademarkagent-tmr@gov.in

What to do now

If your e-KYC is still pending, the notice leaves no room to expect another extension: it calls 30 September 2026 final. For a technical issue or a query on the process, the notice asks stakeholders to write to the help addresses above.
