NCLT e-Certified Copy: how to apply, the 7-day payment window, and why each copy can be used for one filing only
NCLT’s Standard Operating Procedure for e-Certified Copies sets out the route on the e-Filing portal: one application per copy, payment within 7 days of approval, and a digitally signed Facing Sheet with QR code. Once a copy is authenticated by a court or tribunal it cannot be used again; a fresh copy has to be applied for.

What the SOP covers
The National Company Law Tribunal has published a Standard Operating Procedure for issuance and verification of e-Certified Copies of its records. It applies to applications for certified copies — Free of Cost or Paid — of final orders, interim orders and other proceedings of any NCLT Bench issued through the e-Certified Copy module, in accordance with the NCLT Rules, 2016, including Rule 50. The NCLT’s invitation shows the e-Certified Copy and e-Inspection facilities were inaugurated at the Principal Bench, New Delhi on 12 August 2026.
The e-facility runs in addition to the existing physical certified copy; it does not replace it.
How to apply
| Step | What the SOP says |
|---|---|
| Login | Log in at efiling.nclt.gov.in. A user already registered for case filing uses the same credentials; a new user registers through “Register” and changes the system-generated password at first login |
| Request | Under “My requests”, choose “e-Certified Copy” and then “Request e-Certified copy”. Select party type (Petitioner, Respondent, IRP, any other), Bench, case type and case number, and identify the order or document |
| Party | A party applying has to upload the vakalatnama |
| Third party | Select “Any Other option”, fill in the details manually, state the reason and upload an affidavit disclosing bona fide interest in the matter |
| Free or paid | Choose Free of Cost Copy or Paid Copy. A Free of Cost Copy of the final order is available to a party or authorised representative only once |
| Payment | After approval, pay the prescribed fee online through the payment gateway. Not paid within 7 days of approval by the DR — the application is declined automatically |
| Download | An e-mail intimation is sent; the e-Certified Copy and the Facing Sheet are downloaded from the dashboard |
The SOP does not state the amount of the fee; it refers only to the “prescribed fee”.
Third parties are not shut out
The SOP says that merely being a third party is not, by itself, a ground for rejection. Where a third party’s entitlement gives rise to doubt, the matter goes to the HoD of the Bench concerned. For confidential or sensitive records, issue of copies is subject to the orders of the Bench.
One copy, one use
An e-Certified Copy can be produced before the Supreme Court, a High Court, NCLAT or any other court, tribunal, authority or forum. The receiving office verifies it on the NCLT portal — through the “Authenticate e-Certified Copy” tab using the Application Number and facing sheet number, or by scanning the QR code on the Facing Sheet.
Authentication can be done only once. After that the portal reports that the document has already been authenticated and is no longer a valid e-certified copy. If the same order is needed for another filing, a fresh e-Certified Copy has to be applied for.
If something goes wrong
- Money debited but payment not shown: do not file a fresh application; approach the designated Registry official of the Bench with the Application ID / transaction particulars.
- Order not in the digitised record: approach the Registry; if the e-copy cannot be processed, the physical certified copy route remains available.
- Technical failure: the Copying Branch logs the application manually, issues an immediate receipt and supplies the copy in physical form.
What users should do
Count how many forums the order has to be filed before and apply for that many copies, one application each. Pay within 7 days of approval. Keep the downloaded copy and Facing Sheet unaltered, and file them together — the copy is valid only with the Facing Sheet.
Questions and answers
How do I apply for an e-Certified Copy of an NCLT order?
Log in at efiling.nclt.gov.in, go to “My requests”, select “e-Certified Copy” and then “Request e-Certified copy”, choose the party type, Bench, case type and case number, and identify the order or document. A party uploads the vakalatnama; a third party uploads an affidavit disclosing bona fide interest.
Can one e-Certified Copy be filed before more than one court?
No. The SOP says an e-Certified Copy is valid for one filing/use only. Once it has been authenticated on the NCLT portal for a filing, it cannot be used for a subsequent filing; a fresh e-Certified Copy has to be applied for.
What is the fee for an e-Certified Copy?
The SOP does not state an amount. It says that for a Paid Copy the prescribed fee is paid online after the application is approved, and that the application is declined automatically if payment is not made within 7 days of approval by the DR.
Can a person who is not a party to the case get a certified copy?
Yes. A third party applies through “Any Other option”, giving the reason and an affidavit disclosing bona fide interest. The SOP says an application shall not be rejected solely because the applicant is not a party.
How long does the Registry take?
As far as practicable, the e-Certified Copy is to be made ready within 48 hours of receipt of the application, subject to scrutiny and fee realisation where applicable.
