This is a draft: objections and suggestions are invited, and it will be taken up after 60 days from the date the Gazette copies are made available to the public.

172 food import entry pointsNew facilityFSSAI, by a notification dated 15 September 2026, has notified authorised officers at ICD Dhanakya, Jaipur (port code INDNK6) in addition to the 171 points of entry already specified for food imports. CBIC has circulated the updated list of 172 points of entry and their authorised officers through Instruction No. 16/2026-Customs.

Reports in 14 days; imports in 5Rule changeFSSAI has amended the Food Safety and Standards (Laboratory and Sample Analysis) Regulations, 2011. From 1 April 2027, the Food Analyst must issue a signed report within fourteen days of receiving a regulatory sample, the referral laboratory within fourteen days in appeal, and the notified or referral laboratory within five days for import samples. New regulations on the method of analysis are added, and Forms A and B are omitted.

Declare “NFG” in ICEGATEClarifiedFSSAI says a large number of Bills of Entry for non-food-grade items — especially goods with both food and non-food use under the same HSN code — are being routed to it for clearance. By a public notice dated 10 August 2026, it advises importers and customs brokers to declare the qualifier “NFG” while filing Bills of Entry under Single Window, so that the SWIFT system routes the entry correctly.

Pan masala: paper, tin or glassRule changeThe Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Amendment Regulations, 2026 insert a new entry for pan masala in Schedule IV — the list of suggestive packaging materials. It names paper, paper board, cellulose or other naturally derived materials that are free from any plastic and from aluminium foil or metallised layers, and tin or glass containers. The regulations are in force from publication in the Official Gazette; the Gazette issue is dated 10 August 2026.
