What has been notified
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued Notification S.O. 5190(E) dated 21 September 2026, amending the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement of Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021. The notification is made under sub-sections (1) and (2) of section 16 read with sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, the Central Government being of the opinion that it is necessary or expedient in the public interest.
It does two things: it adds one product to the Schedule of the Order, and it fixes the date from which the Order applies to that product.

The provisions of the Order “shall apply on the goods or articles as specified in the column (2), added to the schedule of the said Order by virtue of this notification, for conforming to the corresponding Indian Standard as specified in the column (3), with effect from 1st April, 2027”.
