GST portal opens “Multistate Registration”: apply for several States under one PAN in one go
GSTN has added a Multistate Registration tab on the portal home page. Common details are entered once through a Master TRN and flow into each State application. For now it is only for normal taxpayers.
In 30 seconds
- A new “Multistate Registration” tab is on the home page of the GST Common Portal.
- Selecting the States/UTs generates a Master TRN; it has to be submitted within 15 days.
- Common Registration Information is filled once and auto-populates in each State’s TRN, where it stays editable.
- Available only for Normal Taxpayers at present.
Before and now
The common details were entered again in each State’s registration application.
Common details go in once through the Master TRN and are auto-populated in every selected State’s application.
How the new facility works
- On the portal home page, open the Multistate Registration tab and select the States/UTs where registration is needed under the same PAN.
- A Master TRN is generated. It is required to be submitted within 15 days.
- Using the Master TRN, fill the Common Registration Information (CRI) — business details, promoter/partner details, authorised signatory, authorised representative, and goods and services.
- Once the CRI is submitted, an individual TRN is generated for each selected State/UT. The common information comes pre-filled there and can still be edited.
- In each individual TRN, add what is State-specific — Principal Place of Business, Additional Places of Business, State-specific information — and complete Aadhaar authentication.
What it saves
The applicant no longer has to type the same common information separately in every State’s application. GSTN says the functionality reduces repetitive data entry.
Limits to note
- The advisory says the functionality is currently available only for Normal Taxpayers.
- Each State still gets its own application and its own place-of-business details.
